Flowing Noodles (Somen Nagashi)

If you’ve never been to a somen nagashi restaurant in Ibusuki, you’re really missing out. Although the menu is basically the same wherever you go, noodles, sashimi, grilled fish, miso soup, and an assortment of pickles, it really is a great combo, especially in summer. These restaurants are hidden away in the woods which means that they’re about 10 degrees cooler than anywhere else in Kagoshima without air conditioning
which is to say, it’s pretty awesome. Although it’s about a 45 minute drive from downtown Kagoshima, it’s definitely worth the trek for the ambience and sightseeing. A typical lunch costs about 1,500JPY (13USD). Just search Somen Nagashi and you’ll definitely find these three restaurants that are all in the same patch of woods along the same brook.
